Scout Association Rod Jezerski zmaj Velenje
Scout Association Rod Jezerski zmaj (RJZ) is the biggest scout association in Slovenia. All together, from cubs to seniors, there are more than 700 scouts active. Scouts in Velenje and its surrounding are based at several local primary schools; Primary School Gustav Šilih, Anton Aškers, Gorica, Livada, Šalek, MPT, Šentilj and Škale.
For more than 40 years Fridays between 5 and 6 pm have been reserved for the weekly group meetings. Group leaders make possible for our members to experience various activities through which we prepare them for life. Every year we organise winter camps (in six different periods) and various competitions. We also take part in different events and competitions, which are organised by other scout associations, we also take care of our nature through taking part in cleaning-the-environment events
A real treat of the year is a summer camp in Ribno near Bled, where around 400 scouts enjoy unforgettable moments. In 1997 our scout association hosted the first Slovenian national jamboree, 10 years later we organised the Scout Fest, where the biggest number of scouts gathered in Slovenia.
The aims of the scout movement and also our association are building a positive relationship of every individual towards themsleves, others and nature; respecting social and moral norms such as responsibility, solidarity, respecting differences, code of behaviours, healthy way of life and way of thinking ... We try to reach these aims through activities mentioned previously.
We are proud of being the biggest youth organisation in the valley and to offer the young a true relationship with nature. It is our aim to raise scouts who will be able to charish the basic values, being neglected too many times these days, such as friendship, honesty, worry about the nature ...
